When does Plus pay back from commission savings only?
If you compare Advanced to Plus on the 3-year USD entry price, the extra fixed platform cost is roughly the Plus fee minus your current monthly plan cost. Using a common Advanced baseline of $399/mo, that means Plus needs to recover about $1,901/mo before the upgrade is financially neutral.
The cleanest fee-only case is third-party gateway processing: Shopify's public pricing table shows Advanced at 0.6% and Plus at 0.2%, a 0.4 percentage point reduction. On that basis, Advanced to Plus breaks even at about $475k monthly GMV, or $5.7M annual GMV, before considering checkout, B2B, POS, app consolidation or ops savings.
If you use Shopify Payments, Plus card rates are competitive but country-specific and quote-specific. Treat the rate delta as the important number: a 0.2 point saving needs roughly double the revenue of a 0.4 point saving; a 0.5 point saving reaches break-even much earlier.
